Local Animal Advocate, Retired but Still Donating for a Cause

Local animal lover and long-time animal advocate, Joan Allen, may have retired from the Toccoa-Stephens County Humane Shelter Board recently but she hasn’t retired from her cause.

Allen moved to this area over 20 years ago and began working with the Stephens County Humane Society. She spent the next twenty years rescuing, spaying, and adopting, with at least one day each weekend spent at adoption events, in Stephens County and beyond. The last few years have seen her slowing down but staying active on the Shelter board. Now, for health reasons, she is not actively volunteering but she is still paying attention to local animals. She, along with a group of friends, have attended fundraising events for another local organization, Cause: PAWS, Inc., over the last couple of years. While still an advocate of spaying and adoption, she also recognizes the need to offer humane education to the younger generation.

Allen has made a series of donations to Cause: PAWS this spring to help further our missions. We are grateful for her support.
